About UGC NET Paper-I: The exam assesses the teaching and research aptitude of candidates. It evaluates cognitive abilities like comprehension, analysis, evaluation, deductive reasoning, and general awareness about higher education.

Unit-I: Teaching Aptitude

  • Teaching: Concept, Objectives, Levels (Memory, Understanding, Reflective), Characteristics.
  • Learner’s Characteristics: Adolescent & Adult learners (Academic, Social, Emotional, Cognitive).
  • Factors Affecting Teaching: Teacher, Learner, Support Material, Instructional Facilities, Learning Environment, Institution.
  • Methods of Teaching: Teacher-Centered vs. Learner-Centered, Online & Offline Methods (SWAYAM, MOOCs, etc.).
  • Evaluation Systems: Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS), Computer-Based Testing, Innovations.

Unit-II: Research Aptitude

  • Research: Meaning, Types, Characteristics, Positivism & Post-Positivism.
  • Methods: Experimental, Descriptive, Historical, Qualitative & Quantitative.
  • Steps of Research: Planning, Data Collection, Analysis.
  • Thesis & Article Writing: Format & Referencing Styles.
  • ICT in Research & Research Ethics.

Unit-III: Comprehension

A passage will be given in the exam, followed by multiple-choice questions for evaluation.

Unit-IV: Communication

  • Types: Verbal, Non-Verbal, Inter-Cultural, Group Communication.
  • Barriers: Physical, Psychological, Linguistic, Cultural.
  • Mass Media & Society.

Unit-V: Mathematical Reasoning & Aptitude

  • Types of Reasoning.
  • Number & Letter Series, Coding-Decoding.
  • Mathematical Aptitude: Fractions, Ratios, Profit & Loss, Averages.

Unit-VI: Logical Reasoning

  • Arguments: Forms, Structure, Fallacies, Uses of Language.
  • Reasoning: Deductive vs. Inductive, Analogies, Venn Diagrams.
  • Indian Logic: Pramanas (Perception, Inference, Comparison, Verbal Testimony, etc.).

Unit-VII: Data Interpretation

  • Sources, Acquisition, Classification of Data.
  • Quantitative & Qualitative Data.
  • Graphical Representation: Bar Charts, Pie Charts, Line Charts.
  • Data Interpretation & Governance.

Unit-VIII: Information & Communication Technology (ICT)

  • ICT Terminologies & Basics.
  • Internet, Intranet, Email, Audio & Video Conferencing.
  • Digital Initiatives in Higher Education.
  • ICT & Governance.

Unit-IX: People, Development & Environment

  • Millennium Development & Sustainable Development Goals.
  • Human-Environment Interaction, Environmental Issues (Air, Water, Soil, Noise Pollution, etc.).
  • Climate Change: Socio-Economic & Political Dimensions.
  • Natural & Energy Resources.
  • Environmental Laws: Protection Act (1986), Paris Agreement, Kyoto Protocol, etc.

Unit-X: Higher Education System

  • Ancient & Post-Independence Higher Education in India.
  • Oriental, Conventional & Non-Conventional Learning.
  • Professional, Technical & Skill-Based Education.
  • Value Education & Environmental Education.
  • Policies, Governance & Administration.

Exam Pattern: Each module consists of five questions, each carrying 2 marks. Graphical questions are adapted for visually impaired candidates.
